Background Information

Trustees welcome applications from young people aged 16 to 24 years who need assistance with a project or undertaking that may not fit the usual kind of endeavour for which funding may be sought. The best applicants are shortlisted for interview.

Decisions as to successful applicants are made throughout the year.

Applicants, or their parents, must be resident within the area covered by Rotary district 9940. This area covers the south-western part of the North Island from Taranaki to Wellington, including the Waimarino, and also the Wairarapa and to Dannevirke to the east of the Tararuas. The Trustees are especially keen to assist young people who have a vision of their future and wish to progress towards realisation of that vision. Those who demonstrate self help skills and who have tried to meet their financial needs through their own endeavours are noted.

The Trust does not make grants to cover the usual costs associated with tertiary studies though assistance may be considered for special equipment etc. for persons who have a disability.

In the past grants have been made to a wide range of individuals in connection with sporting, educational, social, and cultural endeavours. Some grants have been made to enable attendance at specific courses or programmes either in New Zealand or abroad. Grants determined are not paid direct to individuals but to the service provider or organisation which is assisting the grantee.
